June News Release - Free Screening Mammograms Now Available

NEWS RELEASE  -  June 28, 2016  -  Contact:  Betty S. Weemes, 787-5117

Tri-Cities Affiliate of Susan G. Komen announces that Laughlin Health Care Foundation has received funding for 100 free screening mammograms.

Laughlin Health Care Foundation’s “Tell your Mom, Save a Life” program has been instrumental in providing breast health information to all women in the community about the free mammograms for qualified women.  “Tell your Mom” partners with teacher/sponsors and senior, female students in the high schools in the community to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer.  These young women “tell” their mothers, aunts, school employees, and others about the free mammograms and encourage the women in their lives to apply for the free mammograms.

These free screenings will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis from qualified applicants.

All successful participants must meet the following qualifications:
• Income guidelines, as listed below
• hold insurance that will not cover a screening mammogram or be uninsured
• be between the ages of 40 through 64

Applications are available at the Laughlin Memorial Hospital front lobby desk, Laughlin Center for Women’s Health, Greene County Health Department, community health clinics, and DHS Office.  Potential participants must take their applications to the Greene County Health Department or return it to Laughlin Center for Women’s Health at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Financial guidelines are as follows:

This grant year, Laughlin Health Care Foundation has been provided funding for the 100 free mammograms for women in the communities of Greene, women in bordering Hawkins and Washington Counties, who are served at the Baileyton Community Health Clinic and the Limestone Community Health Clinic.

One very important aspect of the free mammograms is that if an abnormal or suspicious area is found through the mammograms, all future services are absolutely free to women who qualify through the Tennessee Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program.

For additional information about the free, screening mammograms, call Laughlin Health Care Foundation, 787-5117 or the Greene County Health Department, 798-1749.
