November News - Passport 55 presents “Stay Safe and Put The Freeze on Holiday Fires”

NEWS RELEASE  -  November 6, 2017  -  Contact:  Betty S. Weemes...787-5117

Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner, but don’t let either of these special times end up in a fire disaster.  There will be extra cooking and other preparations for the holidays that could create a potential fire hazard. Did you know that if a fire starts in your home, you may have just two minutes to escape?  That having a working smoke alarm can reduce ones chances of dying in a fire by nearly half?  The most effective way to protect yourself and your home from fire is to identify and remove fire hazards.

Please join us on Thursday, November 16 at 10:00 a.m., when Greeneville’s Fire Chief, Alan Shipley, and Fire Marshal, David Weems, present an informative session, “Stay Safe and Put The Freeze on Holiday Fires” at Passport 55, at Roby Adult Center, 203 College Street.  These are very timely subjects to discuss as we certainly want to stay safe while hosting the many holiday gatherings of family and friends.

During their talk, Shipley and Weems will also discuss proper use of electricity and other points during holiday food preparation and decorating, as well as registering Passport 55 participants for a free smoke alarm, which will be scheduled for delivery and installed by the local fire stations.  Do you have a hearing disability?  If so, don’t miss the information that will be available regarding special smoke alarms for the hearing impaired.  You don’t want to miss the tour of the Big Red Fire Truck, as it will be on site too!

Passport 55 is a health-related, free program, open to the public as a community service by Laughlin Memorial Hospital and is presented each month in partnership with Roby Adult Center.
