Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists retrain residents in self-care skills such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and feeding. They use graded activities, safety training, and compensatory techniques to improve activities of daily living. Occupational therapists are specialists in recommending adaptive equipment and environmental changes to help resident's function safely in their environment. They are especially sensitive to the stress and frustration often felt by residents and their families during the rehabilitative period. Treatment techniques include functional mobility, self-care activities, positioning techniques, contracture management, home safety assessment, and activity analysis.
